RYRON GRACIE ROBBING YOU OF YOUR JIU JITSU INFORMATION.

DSTRYRsg is officially back from the holiday.  Many turkeys, triangle armbars and pumpkin-related desserts were had.  Back to more jiu jitsu:

If you haven't yet, check out this latest version of BJJWeekly's "Rolling Reflections" segment featuring Ryron Gracie.  Our brothers at BJJWeekly are consistently outdoing themselves with the caliber of athlete they work with and the overall quality of their material.  Props to them for tapping Ryron on this (he's got BJJ [or GJJ, as he'd say] in his DNA).

This piece hits on a couple key points for me: (1) it gives non-expert level grapplers a view into the mindset of a true expert and athlete in the sport, and, more importantly, (2) it's a nice illustration to all grapplers that every roll is an educational and informative experience for both participants, regardless of the differenec in skill level.

Watching this totally reminds me of the time you sneak attacked your sensei with a dim mak strike and a throwing star, only to realize he was merely baiting you with his his trademarked drunken praying mantis style kung fu.  Maybe that's not the best example.  It is Monday.

Enjoy this and rewatch it repeatedly.  It's full of memorable comments.  Thanks again to the BJJ Weekly for the great work.

  4. At 4:18 he says
"what ever kind of guard this is, animal or insect... not a big deal"

    What does this mean?

  5. Yes!! You can't defeat Ryron Gracie with some random insect or marsupial/rodent guard.

My favorite is when he says "My open guard is amazing; I'm beyond the open guard." That's just badass Gracie talk right there.
