If it were ever acceptable to hate on someone, it would be case for Chael Sonnen. He's said a lot of whacky, controversial and insulting things. Add the fact that he was caught for using steroids (although he claimed it was testosterone replacement therapy) and was recently busted for money laundering, and it's pretty easy to dislike the guy. To make matters worse, he's even said some disparaging things about our very own Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.*
So, basically, he wants us to hate him.
That being said, we have to give Chael props for being a strong supporter of collegiate wrestling. Admittedly, we forget the guy was a Division I wrestler out of University of Oregon and a 2-time national champion. That's a heavy duty wrestling resume. Check out a very low-key, non-controversial version of Chael talking this weekend with flowwrestling at an Oregon high school wrestling tournament about the need to continue supporting and developing local and national level wrestling programs.
*"My hands are heavy and most importantly they are very fast. I have been called the fastest white man alive. I don't work submissions and not because I am trying to prove something I'm just frankly not very good at 'em. I am very good at getting away. I've never fought anybody whether it was in practice or competition who could hold me down. Even if I thought I could get a submission I'm not laying underneath a grown man with my legs spread on worldwide T.V. Some guys subscribe to that theory but I am a Republican and we don't do that." "He [Anderson Silva] has a black belt from the Nogueira brothers, but to me, a black belt from the Nogueira brothers is like a free toy in a Happy Meal." [Source]
