It's a fact that wrestling takedown and takedown defense skills will make you a more competitive grappler. This is especially true in the world of no-gi submission grappling competition.
Check out this slick, alternative single leg defense demonstrated by former Brazilian National Champ (BJJ), world class wrestler and judoka and BJJ/Judo black belt, Rodrigo Artilheiro (and brought to you by graciemag). This is a less common approach compared to the typical collegiate wrestling style whizzer-type defense (i..e., employing the whizzer for leverage in order to kick leg free in order to end up in the neutral position). Artiheiro chooses a fancier route that puts the defender in side control. We dig it.
This might not be considerred a "core" defense, but it's something to add to your arsenal. We recommend you drill the hell out of it. Report back to us on its effectiveness.

ReplyDeleteThat whizzer to the inside arm is something that I have not seen pointed out in other instructional videos. Excellent point.
To get a more effective chest-chest aka side control position, push his head to the outside, whizzer the arm that has your leg and underhook the farside then sit under and kick over
