NO MULLETS WERE HARMED IN THE TAPING OF THIS SAMBO MATCH.

DSTRYR/sg has historically been a mullet-friendly website and, overall, we try to make the world a better place for the mullet-wearing grappler.  That's because, more than a hairstyle or even a lifestyle choice, it's a commitment to hair excellence.

Despite its many intrinsic powers, mullets are not without their limitations.  Case in point, the video below of a recent international Sambo match resulting in a crushing technical superiority loss by our mullet-adorned brother.  It just proves you can't win them all, but you can still look sweet.

Seriously, though.  Check out this match.  Watching international Sambo really emphasizes to me to me how critical the rules are to submission grappling.  Shorter matches and the ability to defeat an opponent with a single throw or submission or by what is effectively a technical fall (winning by 12 or more points) creates a greater sense of urgency.  The result - faster paced and often more violent seeming matches than we see in modern day IBJJF-type matches.

  1. Got a link to a short overview of the rules they're using? I'm not a sambo guy so I'd like to know why they score it the way they do and why it restarts so often.
