For some reason or another this damn North South Choke is all up in my personal space these days. A few weeks, my old teammate and good friend, Chris Lisciandro, did a short instructional video on the choke and later gave me a private tutorial to help me perfect it. It's definitely 100% money in the bank high percentage, grade-A submission magic. But, now it seems like it's everywhere I turn (or maybe I just haven't been paying attention).
Cut to the video featured below. It's Marcelo Garcia and Stephan Kesting together again. I don't need to say anything else. They're sort of like the peanut butter and jelly of BJJ instructionals. Plus, you can never go wrong when Marcelo is teaching you how to choke a man. I know that's profound for a Tuesday morning, but that is just how we do things around here. These guys do this choke justice, giving you plenty of detail on its nuances.
So, check out Marcelo's version of this choke. I can vouch for its effectiveness. Do it and start your reign of terror on the mat (or workplace/classroom) now.
* Instructionalization is not a real word. We know this, but we fear no one.
You get a check plus for learning that one, grappler. You might already be familiar with another version of this choke popularized (and perfected) by no-gi icon, Jeff Monson. Become effective with that one for extra credit.
Finally, here's Chris' version of the choke. I believe he worked on this with another grappler known for this choke - Jeff Glover. Extra knowledge we know, but [most of] you can handle it.
