7UP? Sprite? Mountain Dew? Mello Yello?
Everyone has their favorite brand. The brand that suits them. The same concept applies, to some degree, in BJJ. You're a Jacare guy - you admire that killer instinct, that speed. You're a Roger Gracie guy - you admire his calm, cool and directed approach (i.e., he will eventually choke you from mount) to the game. Your'e a Marcel Garcia - you admire his agility and creativity. Or, maybe you're Xande Ribeiro guy - you admire his level headedness, his logical approach, his strength.
I've always admired both Xande and his older bro, Saulo, for their application of basic, functional technique. Both are gifted athletes, but their style has always been grounded in fundamental BJJ movements.
Take a look at a very recent video technique Xande did (for his facebook page - go "like" him) illustrating proper escape from back control (in particular, the seat-belt lock). This works.
