Last week, our resident Catch Wrestling coach, Martin Roy of Ville Émard Catch Wrestling, Montreal, Quebec, showed us a great set up for a rear single leg pick from the underhooked position.  Today, we bring you Part 2 of an very cool series from Martin, featuring the same rear single pick off of the arm drag (followed by several gnarly subs, as we've come to expect from the CACC variety).

Now, I know you pretty well, grappler.  Your thinking one of the following things:
  1. You're already an expert at this setup and takedown and employ it daily and effectively against your coach.
  2. You don't feel the need for takedowns, since you've spent at least 2 lunch breaks studying the Mendes Bros' 50/50 guard on the interweb and you're fairly certain yours is now close to world class.
  3. You've come to realize DSTRYR/SG is always right and you're eager to try this on the wife/significant other, pre-teen sibling and/or co-worker.
I think we both know the right answer here.

This is a very unique type of takedown for most BJJ-based grapplers.  I'm certainly not used to stepping back like that and attempting a pick from the rear like this.  It's a different approach to the game, especially since it's goal is to put the opponent in a vulnerable position for leg subs.  Drill it, have fun with it and make it your own.
