DSTRYR/SG EXCLUSIVE: "WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE YOUR LOUSY HOOK ATTEMPT" (or "TWO TWISTED CACC TECHNIQUES FROM TURTLE").
Here at DSTRYR/SG, we're all about cultural acceptance and sensitivity and political correctness. We would never say your inverted guard looks "retarded" or that your attacks have the power of a little girl. No. We accept you for who you are, grappler - even if you cross-dress or listen to country western music or do Pilates or are a twin or wear a fauxhawk or a fancy $200 fully-lined gi (we barely accept that). We're good like that.
We're also open-minded when it comes to the cultural differences we observe among our grappling brethren. The Sambo players prefer to wear no pants with their gis. That's OK. And, the catch wrestlers? Well, these guys are cut from a different cloth altogether. They don't "play the guard." Instead, they go on all fours or what we BJJers call the turtle position (because it makes you look like a turtle). As is typical with these guys (the skilled ones), attempting to get a hook in is likely to result in bodily harm to you . And, it will be gruesome.
Resident DSTRYR/SG CACC coach, Martin Roy of Ville Émard Catch Wrestling, Montreal, Quebec, has once again created more great exclusive catch wrestling content for us. This time, it features Kris Iatskevich, co-founder and head coach of International Submission Wrestling Alliance, teaching two solid reversals from all fours countering an attempted hook (to take the back). These are unorthodox positions and techniques for the average BJJ practitioner. Twisted? Yes. Badass? Yes. Evil? Maybe.
Thanks again to Martin and Kris for this.
