YOU HAVE LANDED IN HALF GUARD, GO BACK 3 STEPS AND PAY DUES.

We've featured Ricardo Cavalcanti several times here and he always has a unique perspective on techniques. I find it refreshing that Master Cavalcanti continues to add variations to his already vast arsenal.

Over time, it's a natural instinct to stay within our comfort range and do what is easy and not push ourselves into places unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Master Cavalcanti adds simple, yet tricky, setups and variations to a rather basic position to create some awesome techniques of his own.

Today he shows us how to avoid getting your half guard passed and then make your opponent pay.

BUT WAIT ... there's more.  Check out the flipside of the half guard as black belt (and now Marcelo Garcia student/affiliate), Emily Kwok of Princeton BJJ, shows us a simple 1-2-punch style half guard pass.

  2. The second variation... I've seen a similar technique where you use the untucked lapel of the gi to pull behind the armpit, to make pressure and drive them towards the floor.

Cool simple technique to see, thanks for posting!
