KWOK/KESTING KOACHING KILLER SEATED GUARD.

You know you're a BJJ geek, if you could listen to Stephan Kesting and Emily Kwok lecture on the finer points of BJJ for hours on end.  I guess that's me.  Their collegial and almost intellectual coaching style really appeals to me (although nothing like my upbringing in BJJ).

Check out a quality explanation and demo from Emily Kwok on the seated guard approach (from her DVD "How to Defeat the Bigger, Stronger Opponent").  She's learned from the best in the world, having spent time under the Marcelo Garcia.  This position is extremely nuanced and dynamic and considerably dangerous for those who are new to it.  But, given it's popularity in BJJ, it's almost essential to know it (at minimum, for defense).

Now, go watch 10 minutes of Emily schooling you (she even shows a simple, and effective sweep).

  1. Ryron demonstrated this sweep on rolling reflections. Good stuff!

  2. I remember that. Hard to catch on someone with a lot of experience who's being careful.

I liked her explanation of the basics on the subject.

  3. Marcelo has hit that sweep at Abu Dhabi, so I assume it will work on anyone.
