COPA PÓDIO de JIU JITSU: PRO BJJ GRAND PRIX FROM BRASIL.

As much as it's emerging toward the mainstream, our beloved BJJ is still sort of a cult sport.  Sure, you're the go-to guy for Joe Rogan translations at any casual UFC viewing party and you do get a lot of "Royce Gracie ... he's the best, right?" comments, but that's not even a drop in the bucket compared to big-time pro sports or even traditional stand-up martial arts (e.g., Karate, Kung Fu, TKD).

Still, we get glimpses periodically of what our sport can be and where it's going .  The Copa Pódio, a 10-man Lightweight professional BJJ Grand Prix, held in Porto Alegre this past weekend, is a perfect example of this.  I think the elevated mats say it all.

Check out the sizzle reel for the event, as well as a few matches, including the final between Leandro Lo and Claudio Caloquinha (spoiled by my top graphic - sorry).

Leandro Lo v Claudio Caloquinha

Leandro Lo v Ed Ramos

Moacir Mendes v JT Torres

  1. So, JT Torres has joined the fifty-fifty gang... sigh... so sad and boring
