THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE I WANT TO BE - RIGHT HERE, SHUAI JIAO.

Once again, over the holiday weekend, with a belly full of turkey and an overabundance of spontaneous sleeping, I was able to mix music and grappling in one swift title. Now Jesus Jones should not be confused with the soulful yet mind-numbing ballads of Norah Jones or the sultry beauty of January Jones (Betty Draper is a real bitch though.) There is only one Jesus Jones; they were one of the leading groups of the early 1990s indie dance scene with hits such as "Right here, right now."  Much like the band, the art of Chinese Shuai Jiao was one of the original grappling arts that has a direct link to JJJ, Judo, and BJJ. Shuai Jiao is a native wrestling style of China that can trace its origins back 3000 years. It has influenced countless other arts throughout the world including Sumo, Sambo and Judo. Watch this video and appreciate the very close similarities that this ancient art utilizes.

Go ahead, hit that play button Shuai Jiao!

  1. Awesome. It would def take some getting used to the no-gi grips on the arms and lapel grips on the jacket...

  2. Looks a little to complicated to be as effective as judo or greco but it has some interesting wrinkles and still looks reasonably effective.

  3. I think of it as a nice hybrid of gi and nogi and it's pretty damn cool to see how this evolved into the current forms of grappling (Judo, BJJ etc).
