HE IS CALLED DAN GABLE, AND HE IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.

Here's a man rule for you, grapplers:  When Dan Gable gives you advice about wrestling, you must listen.

I'm not an expert in wrestling.  I'm just a simple BJJ black belt who relies way to heavily on the triangle.  I know this.  I do have a few (actually 4) years of competitive HS wrestling under my belt.  I like to to those years as the "Vision Quest" years, and they were glorious.  But, I don't know enough about collegiate/folkstyle/greco roman wrestling to claim authority.

What I do know is that Dan Gable is in the top 2 best ever (Cael Sanderson arguably being the greatest).  His competition record is staggeringly great as is his coaching record.  Check out this great clip (courtesy of Flowrestling.org) of Dan working the heavy bag - wrestling style, and explaining the purpose of this drill/exercise (i.e., to improve stance, elbow position, and movement).

Pure wisdom.

  2. God Dan Gable is amazing! Exactly how he was portrayed in a Fighter's Mind. So intense that a lot of people can't keep up hahaha. "Is there anything you wanna ask me??" You'd be surprised what you can do with a heavy bag in regards to grappling.

  4. Replace the telephone pole with a heavy bag and you got a good guard and rotational core workout. Hell can run around the thing and work on your top game. Whatever ya wanna do.

  5. Realize this guy is SIXTY-FOUR YEARS OLD and still getting up in the cold air to pummel a bag and think about wrestling. If Gable would have gotten into submission grappling, imagine how the last 50 years may have been different.

    #mancrush.
