TAKE THIS CHOKE FOR NOW AND GET BACK TO ME WHEN YOUR DE LA RIVA GUARD IS BETTER..

I get it.  You've been playing around with the De La Riva sweeps for a while now and you fancy yourself some kind of De La Rivista (i.e., like a Barista at Starbucks, only, instead of making fancy beverages, you make fancy sweeps from the guard).  That's good.  Even though I still classify some DLR maneuvers as "fancy," many have become bread n' butter techniques for modern BJJ.  You gotta know this stuff.

BUT, like any good technique, DLR has its vulnerabilities (and, probably weaknesses too).  Allow Master Ricardo Cavalcanti to illustrate.  We love this guy.  He's old school, but, at the same time, completely modern and he consistently delivers innovative techniques.  This is a solid DLR stopper that ends in the guard-player getting choked.

Bonus:  Yeah.  There's a 2nd technique in this video, because that's just how these dudes roll. And, coincidentally, it's a dope roll to counter the ever annoying turtle defense.

  1. this choke looks badass . I get trapped in DLR very often, never really saw a chance for a choke , can't wait to try this. At my gym I have a lot of De La Rivistas
