"HIGH CROTCH" AND "RUNNING THE PIPE": TWO THINGS TO AVOID SAYING UNLESS YOU'RE TALKING WRESTLING TAKEDOWNS.

Art by Urban Sketch
And, even then, it feels kind of weird.  Let's make this a quick commentary, grapplers.  In the video below, Andrew Leone, resident badass wrestling coach at PTT (that's Phuket Top team) and pro fighter, and Ben Askren (former Olympic wrestler; current Bellator Welterweight champ) show us the proper high crotch single leg approach and follow it up with a transition to the double leg.

This is meat n' potatoes technique that any ground fighter should know.  You may well practice this at your BJJ academy already.  You probably don't practice this at your Kenpo Karate or Tae Kwon Do dojo.  Definitely, not at your secret Ninjitsu academy.

  1. Isnt your head supposed to be on the inside so you can drive with your head and avoid the guillotine counter?

  2. it isn't "supposed" to be on either side, there are head inside singles and head outside singles, each with their respective pros and cons

  3. How are you supposed to guillotine a guy if he's got control of one leg?
Why wasn't Askren doing the demonstration and instruction?
Running the pike/pipe to a cut across double, that was Zeke Jones' bread & butter move. Best you guys try to find the video on it, it a lot better executed and taught.
