Maybe you haven't been paying attention lately, but Roger Gracie's been making news recently. First, he made a strong showing at Strikeforce last month beating Keith Jardine, and just this week he announced that he's facing Buchecha in a BJJ superfight in October. Roger, of just Rog as we like to call him, is pretty much the man when it comes to being a legendary badass of Jiu Jitsu. So, none of this is surprising.
Now that we got you all Rogered up, it's time for your knowledge drop. Roger's game is deceptively simple. If you've seen him in action at Worlds or ADCC, you know - he keeps thinks basic. Pass the guy's guard, get to mount, establish dominance and then collar choke him the sh*t our of him. They all know it's coming and they do everything in their power to fight it off, but most of his opponents go down exactly this way (with some exceptions, we know).
Check out a really succinct and precise demo of this choke from mount by Prof. Olavo Abreu, head BJJ coach at Phuket Top Team (our favorite team in Phuket). Variations included! Grapplers, this is real deal stuff; you've probably seen some of these techniques before or have even been coached in them. Either way, this is excellent review with some quality pointers on the details.
