BATTLES: CYBORG X JACKSON FROM ABU DHABI WORLD PRO TRIALS, NEW YORK.

Let's get right to it, grapplers.  These two faced off in the heavyweight finals of the Abu Dhabi World Pro Jiu Jitsu Championships, New York Trials this past weekend.

We're curious what think about this match up. I have to say I'm probably a bit biased toward Cyborg.  He's a crowd pleaser with an aerial, unique and even somewhat risky style (always open guard and usually inverted).  How can you not love that?  You can see in the match that he's making great efforts to catch DJ (Jackson) in a tornado or otherwise inverted sweep.  DJ, on the other hand, plays a tights grinder-type pressure-based top game.  He's got a wrestler's style.  It made for grueling match (to watch, and I'm sure to fight).

Check it. Let us know what you think.  Does style count?  Is it all about getting the W?

  1. that's a pretty high standard.. asking for a win over cyborg.. with more 'style'. huge congrats to a serious up and coming competition team in Team Lloyd Irving.

  2. i think that if your looking for the finish and constantly attacking bottom or top than it a a fair fight ...but when the oppenets just stalls and puts your weight for the match than its a different story

  3. Control the hips, and you can nullify the inverted guard. I like a nice grip on the seat of the pants, ideally, or the belt to do so and a good crossface to pass to side control.

  4. It looks like DJ is wrestling in a gi. Props to him for the win--Cyborg is a beast.
