The De La Riva Guard, as we call it, has perhaps influenced the modern game of BJJ (particularly sport BJJ) more than any other technique. Not even 4 or 5 years ago, it was still considered a boutique-type, advanced open guard game (at least that's what I considered it). Now, even the more advanced DLR maneuvers have become the bread & butter tools of a solid mid-level grappler (I even see advanced white belts attempting this stuff ... on me).
This past weekend, the creator of the DLR guard himself, Ricardo Del La Riva faced equally legendary athlete and coach, Yuki Nakai in a 20 minute submission only match. We haven't found a video of the match in its entirety, but here's a great clip of Mr. DLR doing what he does best.
