Our longtime readers know I hold the techniques of the De la Riva system close to my heart, the same way Jessica Simpson holds on to a candybar. Now, we all need to survive the January craze of people joining our gyms and flooding both the mats and the locker rooms. It's a well known stat that 80% of the people that join in the new year stop going within the 12 months. The craze will soon pass, and you will have your pickings of the feeble white belts.
Anyway, back to De la Riva, a few month ago we all heard about the retirement match that pinned De la Riva vs Nakai in Japan, but until now we have seen very little, if any, footage of the event. It has taken a while but it looks like Professional Jiu-Jitsu Ground Impact Revival is putting out a DVD of the event. Check out the video trailer below!
Now onto the DLR and the Berimbolo.
Over the past three years you have seen the DLR guard turn into a circus act of tumbling, twirling and spinning bringing about the rise of the dreaded berimbolo. Everyone from whitebelts to blackbelts were trying it and it often struck fear of impending doom (or having your back taken) for the top man. Well what if the tables were turned, and you could Bolo your way through the DLR from the top. Such a technique does exist and Jiu Jitsu Magazine and Rodrigo Medeiros Black Belt Rafael Dallinha are here to show you how. Watch, enjoy and DLR your way to victory!
